Meet Mr. Gary Sparrow (Nicholas Lyndhurst), just an ordinary bloke with an extraordinary life; almost a devoted and attentive husband, and a sometimes loyal and dependable best friend. By day a very bored and uninspired TV repairman, and now, by night, an accidental time traveller extraordinaire. Duckett's Passage, a small alley tucked away in Whitechapel is Gary's path to 1940's London and his other life with Phoebe (Dervla Kirwan) in the little East End pub, The Royal Oak. The arrival of Phoebe's war hero husband Donald (Ralph Ineson) brings serious consequences for Gary. In his present day life Yvonne (Michelle Holmes) is putting him under pressure to give up his memorabilia shop and get a proper job. Following Donald's arrival, Gary and Phoebe are devastated at the prospect of having to part. As Gary prepares to give up Phoebe forever, circumstances change and a path becomes clear for him to continue his double life. Whilst wartime London becomes overrun with American G.I's, life for Gary is about to change dramatically in both the 1940's and the present day.
