Jay (Mark Rylance) and Claire (Kerry Fox) are total strangers but every Wednesday they meet to have sex. Passionate, wordless, and until Jay begins to follow her home, seemingly meaningless sex. Being the manager of a trendy bar and recently split from his wife and young family, Jay's days are long and lonely. Claire's visits fit in with his new life perfectly. But the more he finds out about her the more he discovers she has a life of her own and that she is in fact the one using him. Set against the harsh exteriors of London life, the talents of director Patrice Chereau and writer Hanif Kureishi combine here to make a memorable film with a truly European feel.

Rather a sad and lonely little movie but holds the attention. Mark Rylance gives a good performance, parts of which are indicative of the Oscar winner to come (Bridge of Spies). You've also never seen him like this before (Last Tango in Paris, eat your heart out)!!
