Six major directors of the French new wave each contribute a sparkling short film about a different neighbourhood in the legendary city of light: Saint Germain De Pres – A classic new wave tale of sexual mores by Jean Douchet. Gare Du Nord – Told in one stunning tracking shot, a disillusioned young wife becomes aware of life's different possibilities in this segment by Jean Rouche. Rus Saint Denis – A witty exploration of an encounter between a brassy call girl and a mild-mannered dishwasher from Jean-Daniel Pollet. Place D'Etoile – Eric Rohmer's near-farcical tale of a salesman who mistakenly believes he has killed a man in the street with his umbrella. Monrparnasse And Levallois – Jean-Luc Godard's segment expands upon a plot line from 'Une femme est une femme' about a girl who worries that she has mixed up letters written to two different lovers. La Muette – Claude Chabrol ruthlessly critiques the lives of a constantly bickering bourgeois couple, played by the director himself and Stephane Audran.
