Synopsis:
Sir John Betjeman was born in Highgate in 1906. A prolific poet, broadcaster and architectural campaigner, he was knighted in 1969 and made Poet Laureate in 1972. He died in May 1984 and is buried in St Endoc's Church near his beloved home in Trebetherick.
Sir John Betjeman, a founding member of The Victorian Society, celebrates England's Victorian architecture including All Saints Church in London and the famous facade of St Pancras Railway Station. In these four programs, Sir John discusses the work of different Victorian architects including Charles Barry and Augustus Pugin, William Butterfield and Gilbert Scott, Alfred Waterhouse and Norman Shaw as well as Sir Ninian Comper, William Robinson and Sir Edwin Lutyens.
