When fleeing Paris after the German invasion, Georg (Franz Rogowski) escapes to Marseille assuming the identity of a dead author whose papers he possesses. Paul (Willem Dafoe) is an American composer who travels to a remote Mexican village to settle his recently deceased father's affairs.
