Synopsis:
Collection of documentaries directed by Bill Morrison. Over the past twenty years, Bill Morrison has built a filmography of more than thirty striking and original works which have been presented in cinemas, museums, galleries and concert halls worldwide. Making use of rare archival footage, which has often been decayed by the passing of time, Morrison explores the power of film as a medium which is evocative of memory and gives rise to a sense of collective mythology. Morrison's exquisite and timeless films are scored by the cream of the US underground / avant-garde music scene, including Dave Douglas, Henryk Górecki and Bill Frisell.

Uniquely brilliant artistry - Bill Morrison: Selected Films 1996-2014 review by TE

This gets 5 stars for 'Decasia' alone!

The first disc traces Morrison's development and the origins of his trademark use of distressed found footage and avant garde music.

This is film-poetry that fits in a gallery as much as in a cinematic setting. Full screen showings of Morrison's work must be very rare, which is a shame as that would make for a more immersive experience.

'Outerborough' is the best of the other short films on Disc 1, a mesmerising split-screen ride on an urban monorail.

However, it is 'Decasia' that is the most fully realised work here. It is a treasure trove of memorable images and effects.
