Rent Red Planet (2000)

It's 2050, Earth is dying, and colonising Mars is the only alternative to obliteration. Bowman and her crew have made this journey to investigate what went wrong with the malfunctioning Mars Terraforming project, and to repair it. But what happens when they get there is far more terrifying than anyone could have guessed: a crash-landing leaves them without scientific, communication or escape equipment; and causes their military mapping and exploration robot to malfunction into an enemy.

But as the landing team explores the harsh new planet desperately seeking a way out, they make the most baffling discovery of them all: Mars may be barren, but its not uninhabited...

Red Planet review by Shatner's Bassoon

Run of the mill Sci-Fi

The tired old plot of planet Earth running out of oxygen, and a crew sent to investigate a failed attempt of terra-forming Mars into a habitable planet for human life, is one never really seems to get up to speed. And the additional sub-plot of the friendly robot which malfunctions, and then one by one kills off the majority of the crew, is yet another tired old cliche and nothing that hasn't been done before. With a good cast and a fairly decent plot-line, this film should have been so much more than the standard run of the mill Sci-Fi that it is. Even quality actors like Terrence Stamp and Carrie Ann Moss make hard work of the sometimes laughable wooden dialogue. And while there are worst ways to spend 90 minutes, don't expect anything you haven't seen before. However if you're looking for a more rewarding alternative, with a superior storyline and better acting try Brian De Palma's Mission To Mars.
