The story centres on a young filmmaker, LES, who having made it out of Brooklyn to go to film school in California returns to his roots to shoot an al fresco documentary about his old neighbourhood. He doesn't really have any idea what direction his film will take, so is excited when he stumbles onto a real story and discovers that Jimmy, a local slacker, has been missing for two days. 'One-Eye' Jimmy that is, rather than 'One-Arm' Jimmy or 'Jimmy From Over There'. This is the first of many confusions that ensue. When Les decides that the search for one James C. Hoyt is the perfect subject on which to base his documentary.
As word of the filming spreads, many of the colourful locals join in and start an hilariously disorganised and badly-led search party. The neighbours, none of whom hold regular jobs, eagerly lend their ineptitude to the proceedings and Les and his camera are led on a wild goose-chase by a cast o colourful and outrageous characters who are neither quick-witted, bright nor possess the enthusiasm or concern to conduct a particularly thorough search.
The FBI, the Catholic Church and the Mob all become involved in this crazy chase through the streets and alleys of Brooklyn. At the end, all seems futile and just as everyone is about tot give up, Jimmy reappears. Where was he..?? You'll never believe it..!
