Survive the Night

Just not very good

(Edit) 06/09/2020

I wasnt expecting anything amazing from this film but I thought at 88 mins it would be an easy evening film that would plod along nicely.

However this film is slow and and unengaging. The acting is ok with Bruce and Chad not able to put any personality into the characters. The rest of the cast are forgettable. By the end I really didn't care what happened.

Revolutionary Road

Great movie

(Edit) 06/09/2020

Another great Sam Mendes film. Both Leo and Kate are fantastic in this film. This is a slow burner but it's both engaging and showcases some great acting from all involved. It's not an easy film to watch but it's a great film that makes you think.

Highly recommend.

Monos

Wasnt for me

(Edit) 06/09/2020

I was hoping this film would be interesting but I struggled to engage with it. The film aims for a documentary style but its painfully slow but didnt feel it paid off. Lost interest after about half hour and didnt grip me back in. If you like art house films you may like this.

The Fanatic

Bad film

(Edit) 03/09/2020

So for me most bad films are either bad but still watchable or bad in a I cant finish this film. This goes in the first camp.

This film is terrible but at 80 mins goes along at a decent enough pace.

The issues is the film just feels cheap. The acting isnt great despite having Travolta and Sawa who may not be outstanding actors but both capable of better than this.

Fair play to fred Durst for giving it ago although still tried to plug his music in this film.

If you want to see a lame b movie version of Misery then watch this. If you rather not see John Travolta in a bad wig and spending some of the movie pretending to be a English policeman (think a police dick van dyke). Then avoid.

I See You

Decent low budge film

(Edit) 31/08/2020

This is one of those films you can stick on and be entertained. It goes along at a good pace with a couple of twists and turns. Its not really that scary and feels more of a drama/thriller film. The acting is decent and the plot is average but it gets a 3/5 for doing what it was made for.

The Institute

Nice idea but rather dull

(Edit) 25/08/2020

So this film reminded me of a poor version of cure for wellness. It may be based on a true story but it was all rather dull. There is something here and being that it was based on a true event means there was more too explore. Just didnt hold me attention and feel overlong.

Little Monsters

Enjoyable zombie film with comedy

(Edit) 25/08/2020

Theres quite a few zombie movies and tv shows around so it's difficult to create something a bit different.

Full make for this film. The 2 leads are great and has some good funny lines.

The zombie kills are brief with more focus on the characters and the kids.

I would say this is well worth a watch.

The Informer

Passable thriller

(Edit) 07/08/2020

Joel Kinnamon is a decent actor and fits the mould of action hero star. However this film is a very standard thriller. Nothing really stands out with serviceable script and acting. The twists you can see coming a mile off. It's not exactly bad but you wont feel like you have missed out on anything if you didnt see this film.

The Outsider

Almost 5 stars

(Edit) 07/08/2020

I'm a big fan of Stephen King so was expecting good things and wasn't let down. Similar in style to recent shows like Sharp Objects and True Detective. This is not a show that's action packed throughout (last episode aside) but does well to create atmosphere and suspense with fleshed out characters.

It starts off similar to True Detective with the investigation side before going down the IT route of supernatural.

Ben Mendelssohn (very underrated actor) is great in the lead role as is Cynthia Enrivo who is the more engaging character.

Overall a very good show that loses 1 star as a couple of episodes in the middle didnt move the story on much and could if been edited down a bit to 1 episode.

We Hunt Together: Series 1

Not bad

(Edit) 07/08/2020

At first this show felt a bid 3rd rate in filming and acting. However I really enjoyed the guy who played the main cop.

It's a rather standard concept but it's done decent enough and being it's only a few episodes makes for fairly entertaining viewing.

Bombshell

Watch the loudest voice tv series instead

(Edit) 24/07/2020

So 1 star may be a bit harsh but this film felt much like a wikipedia summary of what happened to many of the female employees of fox news. Everything is over stylised and while the acting good it's still not a patch on the loudest voice which gives more detail and insight into the abuse of power for not just the women but also those who dared to challenge.

If u want just a quick summary then this film is more likely a 3 out of 5 but if you have watched the loudest voice and then watched this (as I did) you will have learnt nothing new and you will gain no insight into both a heavily flawed but ambitious cutthroat man in charge or the ambitious women who were exploited along the way.

Greed

Fairly good

(Edit) 22/07/2020

I wasnt sure what to make of this film to begin with. However the style won me over and I liked the way the characters are quite unlikeable but has enough humour to entertain.

That being said I felt like this would of worked better as a mini series where we have more time with the characters.

At times it reminded me of Austin Powers with the relationship between steve coogan and his son.

The lion scene was random but would of worked better if there was more build up around it.

Overall it was good but not great.

The Gentlemen

I'm sold

(Edit) 22/07/2020

I find Guy Ritchie a bit hit or miss. I loved Snatch, Lock stock and sherlock Holmes film but wasnt fussed about Aladdin and rock'n'rolla.

However this film is entertaining from start to end. There aren't many extreme gory scenes other than head shots.

The cast are great and the constant twists and turns make this film a hoot.

Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell are all great in their roles. Again this could easily start a tv miniseries.

Would watch this again.

Daniel Isn't Real

Bit of a let down

(Edit) 13/07/2020

I liked the concept of the film but it felt too much like a lowe budget student project. The acting is ok and the film plods along but it never really goes beyond that. Shame as there was some potential here.

Beast of Burden

Passable for a rainy day

(Edit) 13/07/2020

Daniel Radcliffe is still finding his feet in hollywood. Sadly this is another bland attempt to move away from Harry Potter. This isnt a bad film by any means but its ine of those films that would sit nicely on channel 5 on a friday night. The story has been done before with films like Phonebooth and the commuter where the main character is being hounded by the guy on the phone. Through in the drug trafficking and soap like flashback and you get the idea.
