Synopsis:
"The Laramie Project" is set in and around Laramie, Wyoming in the aftermath of the murder of 21 year old Matthew Shepard. This true story re-enacts the impact of Shepard's death on a small community which was dubbed the 'hate capital of America'. The film follows the story of Matthew's visit to a local bar, his kidnap and beating, the discovery of him tied to a fence, the vigil at the hospital, his death and funeral, and the trial of his killers. In groundbreaking style it mixes real news reports with actors portraying friends, family, cops, killers and other Laramie residents in their own words.

Compelling - The Laramie Project review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert

and at times moving reenacting of the account of student Matthew Shepard who was beaten to death in 1998 in Laramie,WY. A theater group wants to stage the story, so they come to the city and interview circa 200 people who knew Matt or who had to deal with his killing (police, hospital etc). These accounts are then spoken by actors - in the film a few well-known US actors - so it really gives the viewer a documentary style experience. Another great HBO production!
