Rent Startup.com (2001)

A dull look at failure. - Startup.com review by CP Customer

This painfully dull documentary charts the creation and failure of 'govworks.com', an internet website which enables the online payment of parking tickets. Even by documentary standards 'Startup.com' is both poorly directed and edited. There is no narration to explain events, and the documentary simply comprises of 'fly on the wall' video footage of the company directors, with all of the steps in building, and later failure, of their company contained through dialog. What makes matters worse is that the two main company directors and childhood friends, who are the main focus of the documentary, are so bland and unlikable that you simply do not care. 'Tom Herman' is a quiet unassuming guy who has little to say, and his partner 'Kaleil Tuzman' sees himself as a dynamic young buck of the business world when in reality he is little more egotistical fool who proves himself to be a complete incompetent in the world of business and willing to dump on anyone, including his childhood friend, in order to save his own skin. Overall, this is documentary that will leave you so disconnected and utterly bored by the events happening on screen that you just want it end.
