The year is 1959. A young boy, Ingemar (Anton Glanzelius), is obsessed by two things - his namesake fighting for the World Heavyweight boxing title and the fate of Laika, the dog sent in to space by Russia. As his mother's health deteriorates and she no longer has the strength to cope with him, Ingemar is sent to stay with relatives in the country, much like Laika's journey into the unknown.

Moving, insightful but a little bit quirky.

The portrayal of the life of a boy is so accurate you cannot fail to empathise. The very testing elements of life as they affect a young boy are seldom shown so well (like the endlessly poor attempts to mimic a drunk). It is light hearted and mainly upbeat but the themes are pretty harsh.

An intelligent and moving film which revolves around the story of Ingemar, a 12 year old boy who has to come to terms with abandonment, loss and the casual betrayal of adults. Superb acting, beautiful cinematography, and a bold story that dares to ask important questions, this really is a superb film. My only criticism of the film is the appalling quality of its transfer to DVD.
