Synopsis:
Blaine, Missouri, may be small, but Corky St. Clair (Christopher Guest) always dreams big. Determined to get back to the lights of Broadway, he's created Red, White and Blaine, a musical celebration of the burg's 150th anniversary. 'This Is Spinal Tap' and 'Best in Show' co-creator Christopher Guest plays Corky in this acclaimed comedy. Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Parker Posey, Fred Willard and Bob Balaban co-star as stagestruck townfolk who pin their hopes of being discovered on Corky's hilariously hapless theatre production...and on reports that big-time talent scout Mort Guffman will be in the audience.

A tale of Blaine. - Waiting for Guffman review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
24/06/2009

While nowhere near as good as ‘A Mighty Wind’ or ‘Best In Show’, this is one of Christopher Guest’s better films, mainly down to a smart storyline and an excellent ensemble cast. Much like other Guest’s films the real comedy is in the sheer attention to detail. The songs are excellent and like previous Guest films there is a certain sweetness within the story and the characters.

Hilarious spoof about amateur dramatics - Waiting for Guffman review by PV

Spoiler Alert
12/09/2018

Anyone who's had anything to do with the world of amateur dramatics will squirm watching this as they recognise the horrible reality of putting on an am-dram musical.

Co written by Lev (who plays the dentist) with Guest, this has great lines and acting. Utterly believable.

And the songs, co-written by Harry Shearer, are WAY better than what you'd hear in professional musicals like The Greatest Showman (R&B in the 1860s anyone?) or the awful Hamilton. PROPER songs in this.

A really funny film which doesn't outstay its welcome (only 80 minutes). 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
