The film trundles along one directionally and soon becomes repetitive. The dialogue is amiable enough without ever being sharp or witty. Likely to have appeal for an older generation I think.
There's not much wrong with this film. It's fast paced, well acted and watchable. it's just that submarine warfare, nuclear threats, cold war, macho heroics etc is all, well, a bit passé. It needed some twists and some imagination to raise it a level.
Utterly ridiculous from start to finish, wholly unconvincing. It was more like a soap drama with an action scifi movie tacked on to it as an afterthought. The dialogue was hackneyed low quality pap and the situations were poorly judged. Australia can do much better than this.
I'm afraid my opinion of Emma Thompson is that of a self regarding, brainless, lippy luvvie but there's no doubting her acting ability. She's very good. As far as the film is concerned, however, what started of as a promising exploration of moral dilemmas quickly submerged into an emotional quagmire, leaving me feel disappointed. It could have been so much better.
A special talent which was, predictably , destined to end in tragedy. Freddy Mercury's journey from outwardly heterosexual, to bisexual to overtly homosexual was hard viewing at times but his unique persona was played brilliantly by Rami Malek. I was a young man when Queen were at their height and I was not a fan then but if Queen came around today I might be this time! Great film.
Really, a film about next to nothing played by unengaging characters. The dramatic moments, such as they were, spluttered and fizzled out.
Dismal script, dismal direction, dismal Mark Wahlberg performance who seemed to be bored with the whole thing. I hope he's not following the same path as Bruce Willis and Nicholas Cage, acting by numbers to supplement his pension.
No chemistry between the stodgy Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Poor dialogue, poor direction, not very engaging!
No shortage of money spent on scenery, props and extras. You just wonder why this story justified such expenditure. Who authorised it?
It's done well enough but never really captures the moment. There are much better ways to spend over two hours of your life.
Doesn't start very promisingly, you think it's going to be one of those films where self absorbed characters do nothing of any note. But you'd be wrong! It gathers momentum with plenty of twists and turns and some excellent acting. Surprisingly enjoyable!
I was wondering why a film like this would get made but, judging from the reviews, it seems it has an appeal to some people. But not to me! I thought it was self absorbed emotional masochism and didn't interest me in the slightest.
How unflattering to American youth is this film? Hard to believe 4 college students could be so stupid, drugs must have been involved surely. Didn't really like the juxtaposition between the real characters and the dramatic characters, would have preferred the (barely believable ) story to unfold on its own. Unlovely film with unlovely characters and rubbish F strewn dialogue but quite fascinating all the same!
Actually thought Nicholas Cage did better in this rubbishy film than he has in other recent efforts. I would suggest, however, that he should choose his films more carefully in future! The film itself is dark, with little to engage your interest or provide any memorable moments.
The producers came up with an innovative answer to revitalise jaded shark movie palates. Make the shark bigger! And it works! (sort of)
Easy to watch comedy with Rowan Atkinson doing what he does best, well supported by Ben Miller and especially by Emma Thompson.
If you've seen the earlier films there's nothing here to surprise you though, it's very much more of the same but obviously not so fresh.
