This film shows Peter Jacksons talents way before Lord Of The Rings stuff. It has some great special effects, and is generally a fun and suitably creepy way to spend a couple of hours.
Very much of its genre, this is Ghostbusters vs Beetlejuice, with a little bit of Poltergeist and many other hammy comedy horror spoofs of that time thrown in for good measure! It has a very 80's feel to it and feels quite dated considering it was made much later in 1996! The storyline is standard, but this does have a nice feel good vibe, and moves along quite nicely. I didn't find it very funny myself, but thought it was a nice Sunday afternoon film to watch with the kids, even though it is a 15 certificate, there's nothing really scary in here, apart from the theme of a serial killer on the loose!
Famous now as the (5th) movie Peter Jackson wrote and directed before first Lord of the Rings in 2001, this is also all made in New Zealand, with the team that went on to work on the blockbuster Hobbit stories.
It's one of those fastpaced cartoon comedies that Hollywood does so well, (and the UK and Europe don't), with Touchstone pictures often, Chris Columbus stuff and Back to the Future franchise. It's highly entertaining, fast-paced, with the usual leering baddies and goodies, and the characters on journeys. It's fun.
A prefect Friday night movie to watch with friends, laughing and screaming and jumping in unison.
