Flawed but watchable - Girl, Interrupted review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert

Girl Interrupted revolves around the character of Susanna, the only student in her graduating class with no post school plans. Her middle class parents are horrified with the lifeless and seemingly lazy child they've raised, and make no attempt to hide their contempt of her lack of ambition. When Susanna downs a bottle of aspirin along with a bottle of Vodka, she is sent to think things over in a sanatorium. While there she meets fellow mental patients who she slowly learns to bond with. Aside from a fairly unexciting story, the weakest aspect of the film lies with lead actress Winona Ryder who gives yet another charisma free performance, spending the bulk of the film wandering about wide eyed, virtually devoid of any emotion and obviously well out of her depth as an actress. Angelina Jolie to some extent rescues the film from mediocrity by managing to rise above the material she's given with her portrayal of the aggressive and manipulating Lisa. Overall, it's not a great film, though if you have an interest in the subject matter or a fan Angelina Jolie it's watchable enough.
