Gorgeously touristic comedy thriller beautifully photographed in Vistavision on the French Riviera as Cary Grant (formerly of the French Resistance!) protests he is not the cat burglar carrying out a series of jewel robberies in the fabulous hotels and chateaux of the rich, but no one believes him. Least of all the police.
Great entertainment with Grant in his absolute element with the racy screwball dialogue, outclassing the curiously awkward Grace Kelly playing surely the role she was born for; a rich American on holiday looking for a suitable husband on the Côte d'Azur. But she does catch the eye.
It's completely weightless (Hitch has left film noir far behind and is creating his own genre which would be ceaselessly copied) but it's so chic and so much fun it's hard to care. Including the visual innuendo of the firework display that signifies Grant and Kelly's sexual congress.
The Vistavision looks amazing on HD television, by the way.
