Synopsis:
Spanning two decades at the start of the 20th century, "Jules and Jim" follows the lives of two inseparable friends - timid German, Jules (Oskar Werner), and gregarious Parisian, Jim (Henri Serre) - and their shared love of the beautiful, capricious Catherine, played in mesmerising, luminous style by Jeanne Moreau. Overcoming the destructive rift of World War I the trio create a new life for themselves, away from the structures imposed by society. But as the idyllic menage a trois begins to succumb to jealousy and rivalry their idealised existence finds itself slowly buckling under pressure.
Frequently hailed as one of the greatest films ever made, "Jules and Jim" is a dazzling, boldly original tale of love, friendship and the vagaries of history that combines romance, comedy and tragedy in breathtaking, near-perfect dramatic harmony.

Essential viewing but not Truffaut’s best - Jules and Jim review by dl

You can see just from the first 10 mins how much of an influence this as had on the filmmakers that followed, it’s so full of life exceptionally filmed and features a well fitted and magnificent soundtrack, the only place where i found it lacking was in its love triangle story it worked fine for the first hour or so but after that just got a bit too repetitious, the acting is mostly spot on and features plenty of them cool swagger moments, saying that though i felt Jeanne Moreau seemed misplaced and looked quite old haggard at times and left wondering why she had such a hold these young men, maybe it was in tone for the free spirit the film tries to capture ect but i did find it just a bit unbelievable at times. While it is a definite must see i just can’t see myself being drawn to visit it again any time soon.7/10

Jules et zzzzzzzzzz - Jules and Jim review by PE

This is the 2nd time I've put myself through this hugely overrated film and that's it, pas plus. Yes, Jeanne Moreau is luminous as Catherine, yes it's all very bohemian, but it just seems to last forever and none of the characters are as interesting or witty as they or Francois Truffaut seem to think they are.

Err no - Jules and Jim review by CP Customer

I'm sorry but this film is overrated. Apart from two imaginative camera shots and a reasonable concept as the story it was completely uninspiring. I don't know if the characters were supposed to be realistic (there was clearly an attempt to have a comic element to the story through the narration) but I struggled to feel engagement throughout.
