Although a fictionalised account of an actual trip John Lennon (Ian Hart) and Brian Epstein (David Angus) took to Barcelona in 1963, 'The Hours And Times' uses this short respite in the gathering storm of Beatlemania to convincingly portray Epstein and Lennon's strong, unwavering friendship. Suggesting that Epstein - the Beatle's brilliant but troubled middle-class manager - is a man hopelessly besotted with Lennon, a working-class lad 6 years his junior, this is a hugely resonant piece of independent cinema and was a prize-winner at both the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. Shot in Spain and England - with its black and white cinematography starkly evoking the early 1960's - this is an audacious film debut from Christopher Munch that closely examines the meaning of friendship in a narrative of intense dialogue between Epstein and Lennon. Ian Hart's performance was so acclaimed that he was later asked to reprise his role as Lennon in the movie 'Backbeat.' - Actors:
