Cairo, 2013. Two years after the Egyptian revolution, demonstrators of divergent political and religious backgrounds are forcibly detained together in a claustrophobic police truck during the turmoil that erupts following the ousting of former president Morsi. The factions quickly divide between supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood and those backing the military, alongside a pair of neutral journalists and a mother determined to be detained with her son. With all sense of national unity in tatters and the violence on the outside ever-escalating can the prisoners find common ground and stand a chance of survival?
In the spring of 1942 German troops advance deep into the Soviet Union, en route to Stalingrad. Hitler, seriously misjudging the 1 tenacity of the Red Army, is convinced that the city can be conquered before winter. Inadequately clothed and without sufficient food, the Nazi troops literally freeze and starve to death, largely abandoned by their leaders. For the soldiers Fritz, Hans, Rollo and GeGe the struggle for life has just begun. Gunfire and bombs are only one part of this hell; most of the soldiers will lose the battle against hunger and cold. The film presents this turning point in World War II as a vast tableau of horror in which the average German soldier was as much a victim of Nazi evil as were the Soviet people.
If you've ever wanted to hear Jack Nicholson sing or marvel at the sight of Ann-Margret drunkenly cavorting in a cascade of baked beans, Tommy is the movie you've been waiting for. The Who's brilliant rock opera is sublimely matched by director Ken Russell's penchant for cinematic excess during the peak of his filmmaking audacity. It's a fever-dream of musical bombast, revolving around the titular 'deaf, dumb, and blind kid' (Roger Daltrey) who survives the childhood trauma that stole his senses to become a Pinball Wizard. Tommy's odyssey is rendered through wall-to-wall music, from the bloodstream shock of 'The Acid Queen' (Tina Turner) to Elton John's towering rendition of 'Pinball Wizard' and Daltrey's epiphanous rendition of 'I'm Free'. Other star performers include Eric Clapton and (most outrageously) the Who's drummer Keith Moon. Tommy is a classic of creative rock cinema, worthy of the musical and filmmaking genii who fuelled its creation.

Tora! Tora! Tora! is the Japanese signal to attack - and this movie meticulously recreates the attack on Pearl Harbor and the events leading up to it. Opening scenes contrast the American and Japanese positions. Japanese imperialists decide to stage the attack. Top U.S. brass ignore its possibility. Intercepted Japanese messages warn of it - but never reach F.D.R.'s desk. Radar warnings are disregarded. Even the entrapment of a Japanese submarine in Pearl Harbor before the attack goes unreported. Ultimately the Day of Infamy arrives - in the most spectacular, gut-wrenching cavalcade of action-packed footage ever. It's the most dazzling recreation of America's darkest day - and some of her finest hours.
