- Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate. When Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a spy, shows up to save her (he says) from being kidnapped or killed (or both), Elly and her beloved cat Alfie are plunged into a covert world where nothing, and no one, is what it seems.

Disappointing - great first half - Argylle review by AER
For the first half, Argylle is very entertaining and fun to watch. However a twist around the halfway mark bins anything interesting and sets a course towards generic SFX-laden action. Not all is lost though, a few action sequences stand out but on the whole, this could've been way better if it stuck to its guns and knew where its strengths lay. Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard and Bryan Cranston are all good, so the most undemanding viewer might find some things to enjoy.
