Synopsis:
Wartime leaves its mark on history, and on the lives of those whose decisions will affect their lives to come: To collaborate with the enemy, or resist? Take on the role of a victim, or try to survive... but at what cost?
Francois, 21, is living under the shadows of Nazi occupation. His father, who collaborates with the fascist regime, forced him to go to a German university. But Francois, in an act of defiance, ran away. Now he is facing an impossible choice; to be conscripted and leave for the Russian front to fight the Allies, or to join those who are waging their own war of resistance against the Nazi's, enduring the cold and damp hideout of the mines for months on end without seeing the light of day.

A Rare Luxembourgian Film about WWII Resistance, Betrayal, Love, Sex, Loyalty... - The Undercover War review by PV

Spoiler Alert
03/07/2025

Partly in German, partly in French, this is a rare film from Luxembourg. Even now, the population of this tiny Duchy is just 680,000. It is an EU taxdodge state - why so many online companies have offices there.

With 2.45% of its prewar population killed, and a third of all buildings in Luxembourg being destroyed or heavily damaged (due to the Battle of the Bulge), Luxembourg suffered the highest such loss in Western Europe in proportion to its population. 1,000–2,500 of Luxembourg's Jews were murdered in the Holocaust.

It's a small, modest so-so film, about the Resistance in WWII and betrayal, mixed with love stories.

Worth a watch without being stunning, so 3 stars
