Rent Elektra (2005)

Restored to life after sustaining mortal wounds in Daredevil, Elektra now lives only for death as the world's most lethal assassin. Elektra review by Tony, Birmingham

Elektra...elektrifying or not?

The female support from the under rated Dare Devil raises her head here in this spin off movie. Brought back from the dead (happened in the comics but..) Elektra is given the task of despatching a young man and his daughter but cannot do it after she realises that she is living on the same island and the girl is no older than 13. Being haunted by flashbacks of her mother's death does not help matters and neither does it help when she realises that this assignment is a big test... Now there are problems I have with this movie, 1) she was brought back from the dead but DD clearly implies she wasn't dead! If she was, then who left the braile dog tags for Matt at the end? 2) After she decides not to do the family in, then a team of allegedly super powered tough assassins are sent after her, the girl and the dad BUT for such a highly powerful group they are despatched way TOO easily. A bullet proof man is crushed by a tree??? eh??? You can't imagine Superman being squashed flat by a building so what gives? There are some neat character concepts here but as said they are despatched way too easily. Heck that kind of threat level could have been probably dealt with by the child (and she can kick butt but 'nuff said) Garner reprises the role well but after a promising start the movie never really gets going. Why they couldn't have gotten Frank Miller to write the script is anyone's guess. There are some nice visuals but that's about it. An okay film but lacking sadly as Elektra the comic book heroine kicks butt in Daredevil the movie and kicks butt in her own graphic novels, but here she does not generate the same excitement levels for me.

Elektra review by Shatner's Bassoon

An average comic book adaptation.

A spin off from the much underrated ‘Daredevil’, Elektra returns as an assassin for hire after cheating death at the hands of Bullseye. While ‘Daredevils’ weakness was its lack of character development, ‘Elektra’ has the opposite problem, strong characters with a weak storyline and not enough thrills and spills to keep you satisfied. For all its flaws, it’s an average but enjoyable film and worth a look if you like comic book action movies.

A movie with plenty of action, and special effects, but also a sensitive movie that deals with emotions and angst in the heroine.
