Escaping the rain, a widowed cleaning lady enters a pub frequented by foreign workers, where she meets Ali, a Moroccan twenty years her junior. They dance and she invites him home. Lonely and longing for companionship, they marry to the outrage of Ennui's children and the dismay of friends and workers. Emmi and Ali try to lives their lives normally, but as the prejudice that bound them together from the outside dissipates, their relationship begins to unravel from within.
