Rent Meteor (1979)

A visitor from space... and catastrophe on earth! Somewhere in the far reaches of space a comet swings in its lonely orbit around the sun. It's no danger to anyone... until it sends a gigantic meteor on collision course with our world. Impossible? Don't bet on it. In 1937, an asteroid came within 194,000 miles of earth - closer than our moon. And the impact of a body that size would make all the earthquakes, hurricanes and floods on record look like small potatoes. And Natalie Wood (born Natasha Zakharenko) uses her childhood knowledge of Russian in the role of an interpreter. Meteor fragments begin to rain down upon the Earth. One hits the Alps, triggering an avalanche. Another plunges into the Pacific, sending 100-foot wall of water towards Hong Kong. And the largest fragment of all is headed directly for New York City. The pace is fast, the special effects are fantastic - but the message is sobering. The nations of the earth had better get their act together.
