"The Last Act", from Academy Award-winning director Barry Levinson, tells the story of Simon Axler (Al Pacino); an aging actor who is struggling to separate scenes from his play from real life events. As his world slowly starts turning upside-down, Simon embarks upon an affair with a friend's lesbian daughter (Greta Gerwig) but soon finds it is difficult to keep pace with her.
An excellently directed movie from Barry Levinson starring the ever illustrious Al Pacino. I doubt anybody else could have portrayed the aging actor, Simon Axler, with such insight as AP. He is in every scene and arouses a plethora of emotions. The female lead, Kyra Sedgwick, goes hand in glove with AP to make this a very watchable movie. It has an unusual storyline and an excellent screenplay. I'de class this movie as a drama/comedy as opposed to drama as there are some very funny moments in it. It brought the movie, Birdman, to mind but in my opinion, far superior and without all the irritating expletives.
