Synopsis:
Starring 5-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams, 'Sharp Objects' is a psychological drama about a city journalist with a troubled past who returns to her rural hometown to cover the murder of two pre-teen girls. As she clashes with her overbearing mother (Patricia Clarkson), her self-destructive habits return, and she finds herself identifying a bit too closely with the young victims. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) and directed by the Emmy Award-winning director Jean-Marc Vallee (Big Little Lies).

Disappointing - Sharp Objects: Series 1 review by DB

Spoiler Alert
01/02/2019

This is a four episode series stretched out to fill eight episodes. It starts well, then after two or three episodes sinks into torpor. The numerous inconsistencies pile up until you cease to believe in, or care about, anything in the story - the characters, the plot, and especially who dunnit. Amy Adams is (as you'd expect) very good, but can't rescue the poor material (also I don't see how she could look that good given the amount of alcohol she's supposed to be putting away). Can't believe this is directed by Jean-Marc Vallee - he must have been on autopilot. A big disappointment all round.

Enjoyably Sharp Payoff - Sharp Objects: Series 1 review by RP

Multi layered plot and acting make this an entertaining series. It may be worth having the subtitles on as the deep Southern Drawl takes away from some of the finer points. Make sure you watch to the very end as well. If you can enjoy the long car driving sequences and persevere through the nothing much happens until it does bits. Then it really is worth the effort. Disturbing and enjoyably sharp.

Pathetic - Sharp Objects: Series 1 review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
20/10/2020

Overly ponderous , endless shots of driving a car and looking out of windows . I like cop shows where you can guess who done it , but they annoy me how they cram everything into 40 minutes , this is the opposite taken to an extreme. She is having memories ! we get it ! did anyone else think gone girl was totally over-rated? Its one dimensional "faux feminism" .Nasty , the usual Hollywood passive aggression masquerading as trendy. and using a guru name is a low blow , AGAIN. Its Indiana Jones and the temple of racist misogyny all over again.
