Rent Citizen Vigilante (2026)

One of the most disgusting, deplorable and hateful films I have ever watched - Citizen Vigilante review by Timmy B

Amongst film fans, Uwe Boll is infamous for his output of absolutely atrocious films, many of which are ranked as being the worst ever made (Postal, Alone in the Dark ect.) Using a now closed German tax loop hole, he was consistently able to raise the funds to continue this crusade against cinema, irrelevant of how little money the films made or the critical excoriation they received. But despite this reputation, his films were never seen as grossly offensive, more falling into the category of "So bad it's good" or just plain rubbish.

However, Citizen Vigilante became infamous even before it's release, after being denied a ratings classification in Germany, which meant it could not be exhibited. This banning simply added fuel to the fire, turbocharged by Elon Musk offering the film for free, determined to get as many people to see it as possible. And no matter how bad you think this film can get, it simply plunges further down the cesspit of despicableness.

Michael Sanders (Hammer) is an American ex-soldier operating in an unnamed EU country. He is horrified by the crime & attacks he sees, so with his significant wealth and resources, he delivers his own brand of vigilante "justice."

Before I attack the film's themes, it is worth mentioning just how badly made it is. The editing, camera work, pacing, script, sound, literally everything is shocking. There's almost no point in trying to deconstruct any particular element of it, because every part is incompetent dreck. A child with a basic DV camera could do a better job...

But for me and probably most other people, it is this film's story/themes which are the most rancid part of it. It is like Boll asked the most morally depraved & demonic AI system to spend the day watching both GB News and Fox News, then to vomit out a script based on the worst fear-mongering those channels transmit. But what this film is, in the purest sense, is pornography. Whether it is sexual, violence, xenophobia or racism that this film smears across the screen, either overtly and subtly, it is done in the most leary and voyeuristic way imaginable.

In the opening scene, a young white mother is walking with her son when she is stabbed by a black man with an enormous knife, which the camera has fetishistically watched him take out of his waistband then plunge into her neck. We then get treated to multiple different angles as this woman collapses in front of her son, blood spraying everywhere. Later on, we are given a front row seat to a gang rape, with both the victim and perpetrators looking as close to the age of 16 as is possible.

Other delights include men openly spiking women's drinks, Sanders luring multiple police to a house where he slaughters them and demanding that his solicitors ensure that tenants/families are immediately evicted from his properties as soon as they are late with any payment of rent, irrelevant of the circumstances. Then of course, we have the sexual exploitation of women within one of Sanders's properties. He walks through a corridor of prostitutes, the camera taking great care to ensure we see every angle of their bodies, before choosing one & being taken to a filthy room where you can almost smell the cum of previous Johns. This then leads to the most bizarre sex scene I have ever witnessed, incorporating Sander's extreme cleanliness OCD into the mix.

This barely scratches the surface of the depravity contained in this film. I have before seen TV/film which is terrible, usually due to acting or script. But this is so much worse than that. This is a genuinely hateful film, which from it's opening frames shows the most heinous depravity & xenophobia, ratcheting up the animosity towards anyone who isn't like it's protagonist. And Boll made this knowing full well the impact it would have, as well as the sort of people who would be inspired by it.

I genuinely hope I never see a film this reprehensible again
