Whitney Elizabeth Houston (9th August 1963 - 11th February 2012), commonly referred to" as "The Voice", was one of the best-selling Artists of all time having sold over 170 million albums and singles worldwide. She released seven studio albums (And three movie soundtrack albums), all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification. This fascinating programme tells her story. Brought up around music from an early age thanks to her Mum Cissy Houston, her cousin Dionne Warwick and her honorary aunt Aretha Franklin, Whitney started singing as a soloist at the age of 11. But it wasn't until 1983 that Clive Davis at Arista Records, having been so impressed with Whitney, offered her a worldwide recording contract. The rest as they say is history. Charting her rise to fame from the very start this programme takes an in depth look at how Whitney Houston became the worldwide phenomenon we all know.
