Loyal veteran Navy S.E.A.L. Lt. A.K. Waters is sent into the heart of war-torn Africa on a hazardous mission to rescue Dr. Lena Hendricks, a U.S. citizen who runs a mission. When the beautiful doctor refuses to abandon the refugees in her care, Lt. Waters finds himself having to choose between following orders and the dictates of his own conscience. Together, they begin a dangerous trek through the deadly jungle, all the while being pursued by a rebel militia group, with only one goal in mind: to assassinate Lt. Waters' unit and the refugees in his care.

Tears of the Sun review by Rubber Ducky
Extraordinary outing for Willis - one of his best performances

A difficult film to watch in places due to the brutality, but this is not glorified violence. One has to remind oneself that this is a film based on real events going on in Africa and could indeed happen in many parts of the world. Willis leads a special forces team on a rescue mission, who then become involved in the atrocities being committed in the civil war. He is totally believable as the die hard (scuse the pun!)soldier who finds a conscience.

Tears of the Sun review by 'Paul Birkin'
Brutal but maybe necessary

Other websites have criticised this film. I would only say this, watch the interviews afterwards, esp. with the guys who had escaped the horrors of ethnic cleasning occuring in some parts of Africa. This is a brutal film, raw and nasty - but maybe necessary. There's no sense in how people treat other people sometimes, but this movie doesn't try to find a nice pat answer.
