Synopsis:
40-year old Andy Stizer (Steve Carell) has done quite a few things in his life. He's got a cushy job at an electronics superstore, a nice apartment with a proud collection of action figures. But there's just one thing he hasn't gotten around to doing yet... Andy's never, ever had sex - not even by accident. A big deal? Well, for Andy's buds at the store, it sure is. Although they think he's a bit of an oddball, they consider it their duty to help Andy out of his dire situation. But nothing works, until he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year old mother of three. Andy's friends are psyched by the possibility that 'it' may finally happen...
until they hear about an amazing arrangement between the two lovers!

Great, funny film. I haven't had a good laugh at a film for ages. Quite a bit of swearing and tittilation for a '15' film!! wouldn't recommend to under 18's but hilarious film though........great!

Relic of the Raunch Era - The 40 Year-Old Virgin review by griggs

There was a time when The 40-Year-Old Virgin was hailed as the new face of comedy. Watching it now feels like finding an old lads’ mag under the sofa — a relic from an era that mistook humiliation for humour. Its brand of “awkward honesty” plays more like sustained bullying, dressed up as banter.

Steve Carell’s sweet, anxious lead feels trapped in a film that doesn’t share his empathy. He insists he respects women, but the film can’t decide whether to admire him or mock him. Every punchline lands squarely on someone vulnerable — social misfits, women, anyone outside the bro circle.

Peak noughties cringe — loud, leering, and far too pleased with itself. What once passed for raunchy charm now reads like an HR case study with better lighting. Some films age gracefully; this one just shows its age.

Much Better Than Expected - The 40 Year-Old Virgin review by CP Customer

I didn't really know what to expect from this movie but I was pleasantly surprised and amused by this story. I've never heard of Steve Carell before but I'll certainly look out for him again as he was hilarious in the lead role as Andy the "Geek". An enjoyable watch and one that I'll more than likely rent again (or buy as a budget title!) in the next 6 months.
