I honestly didn’t expect Keanu Reeves to be the funniest person in a film led by comedians, but here we are. His Gabriel has this open, guileless vibe that makes even simple lines land, and I kept perking up whenever he drifted back into the story.
It’s not wall-to-wall laughs. It’s more like: a really good bit, a lull, then another really good bit. Aziz Ansari’s writing clearly enjoys giving Reeves and Seth Rogen the juiciest lines, and when they’re sparring it finally feels loose and alive.
What saves it from feeling too patchy is the warmth. Keke Palmer brings a kick of energy every time she shows up, and the needle drops are doing a lot of quiet heavy lifting, setting the tone when the pacing wobbles. By the end I was still smiling — not blown away, just comfortably amused.
