Synopsis:
After twelve wars of estrangement a terminally ill writer (Gaspard Ulliel) returns to his hometown, planning on announcing his impending death to his family. However, his mother (Nathalie Baye), tempestuous siblings (Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux) and beleaguered sister-in-law (Marion Cotillard) have their own personal grievances to air. As buried resentments threaten to surface and fits and feuds begin to unfold, all attempts at empathy and resolution seem increasingly out of reach.

I like films where nothing happens - It's Only the End of the World review by SJ

Spoiler Alert
17/02/2018

Nothing happens in the film in terms of car crashes or gun fights! Its a well done study of the stramash you might expect from a less than cohesive family meeting the 'golden boy' who has shunned his family for so long. I have my limit on boring films but this was fine for me. I can't imagine anyone sitting down and watching this who doesn't know what they are getting from the description and trailer like the chap who gave it a one star review. Some of the dialogue and interplay is a bit odd in its lack of fluency and the boundaries between characters are not healthy. Glad I watched it. Hope you do too - lol.

Dull - It's Only the End of the World review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
06/11/2017

This may be a worthy film, but the first half was so dull that I stopped watching. Apparently a review has to be at least 100 characters long, so I had to add another sentence. Frankly I don't know why I bothered writing anything. But, I guess, if it helps someone who might otherwise waste time renting this, then it's worth it.

If you like slow films where 5 people just talk, go for it. Otherwise give it a miss.
