Synopsis:
In "Gangs of Britain" Gary and Martin Kemp take the viewer on an immersive journey across the UK in which they reveal who ran and who now runs gangland Britain. By connecting the fascinating historical stories of the country's first criminal fraternities (from Manchester's Scuttlers, and Birmingham's Brummagems to The Liverpool Cornermen) with the multi faceted gangs of today, they build up a criminal Who Do You Think You Are, full of amazing stories, characters and facts of British gangs. In each episode Gary and Martin visit a different city where they tell the connected stories of one modern day and one historical gang, through interview, archive and re-construction.

Liverpool
Gary and Martin turn their focus to Liverpool, the Venice of the North. From the very beginning the docks here have determined the fortunes of this city. They've also allowed local criminals to play a part on the global stage. The most infamous being Curtis Warren, known as Cocky, a leading figure in the Liverpool Mafia, the only known criminal to make it onto the Times Rich List. He was involved with an international drug smuggling ring that controlled Britain's £2billion a year cocaine business. But Liverpool gangs weren't always such high rollers. In the 19th century the stakes were much smaller. An innocent man was kicked to death for just a few pence. It was a crime so violent it caused public outrage and became a landmark in the war against gangs in Liverpool. The brothers look at two very different gang crimes - one for sixpence - another for £40 million.
