Rent In the Electric Mist (2009)

New Iberia, Louisiana. Detective Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones) is on the hunt for a serial killer who preys on young women. Driving home from another gruesome crime scene, Dave meets charismatic Hollywood star Elrod Sykes (Peter Sarsgaard). Sykes is in town shooting his new movie, with backing from local crime kingpin Baby Feet Balbon (John Goodman). He tells Dave he saw a body lying in a swamp – decomposed corpse of a black man in chains. The discovery brings memories hurtling out of Dave’s past … he senses the two cases are linked.

The truth will out!

I like Tommy Lee Jones and he didn't disappoint. Always serious and bedeviled by personal problems but he always gets his man. Lots of bodies and the truth is set in the past. However how did John Goodman get to act someone with the name Baby Feet!! - I still see him as Fred Flinstone so couldn't take him seriously. Worth a watch.

Hmmmm, pretty good.

High production values, great soundtrack, and very atmospheric settings make this an good way to pass 1:38 minutes. Tommy Lee Jones and Mary Steenburgen put in great performances, while John Goodman struggles to break from his typecasting, but can be forgiven. Recommended.

Nothing New From Jones

Based on a novel from James Lee Burke, this adaptation is not entirely successful. The film within the film falls into the background as Tommy Lee Jones takes centre stage in this post Hurricane Katrina ravaged Deep South environment. While Jones is ideally suited to the role of the recovering alcoholic lawman, its not exactly new ground for him, as he sleepwalks through proceedings. The pacing of the film is badly affected by the plot as midway through it grinds to a halt before picking up steam towards the end. We’ve seen far better films and crimes in this region of America, so In The Electric Mist is not one I can really recommend.
