An inspired story about the power of love and the human spirit, Life Is Beautiful has been called a modern masterpiece! Guido - a charming but bumbling waiter who's gifted with a colourful imagination and an irresistible sense of humour - has won the heart of the woman he loves and created a beautiful life for his young family. But then, that life is threatened by World War II and Guido must rely on those very same strengths to save his beloved wife and son from an unthinkable fate...

The photography is beautiful

It seems to be a hallmark of French and Italian films that the photography is often gorgeous. The plot and direction are however so bubbly as to be moderately offensive. Probably best watched when you're in a very light-hearted and juvenile mood not as a Friday night film.

Rent this film!

I nearly sent this film back without watching it, but I'm glad I didn't. It is everything it says in the blurb: unique, funny and heartwrending. The constant laughing and joking of the main character somehow makes the atrocities of the Nazi regime even more appalling. Very, very moving and definite 'must-see'.
