River King review by Shatner's Bassoon

A slow burning, intense and well acted thriller.

The plot of 'The River King' revolves around the exclusive Hadden prep school, where staff are under the control of the school benefactors, secret societies prosper and appearances are deemed far more important than the truth. After the drowned body of a student is found in a near by river, a detective named Abel Grey and his partner are assigned to the case and it's not long before they suspect murder and ritual bullying. And as the investigation proceeds, Abel recalls memories of his own older brother's suicide, and the dark secrets which have haunted him. Story wise 'The River King' is pretty much a run of the mill thriller with the obligatory plot twists, although what lifts this film up above the rest is some great character acting, stunning cinematography, which along with a haunting musical score seduces you into the film. If you enjoy well made thrillers then 'The River King' is a highly recommended rental.
