Synopsis:
England, 1942. What would make Liz Grainger (Kate Buffery), a mother with a five-year-old daughter, leave her comfortable life in Devon to be an operative for Britain's secret service? Trained by the Special Operations Executive, she becomes a spy placed into occupied French territories, and her life becomes one of imminent danger as the fear of capture and death follows hard on her heels.

Series One
Liz Grainger joins the SOE and is put into occupied France along with her fellow operative Matty Firman (Suzanna Hamilton). Though trained, nothing can prepare them for life in a country under military occupation.

It's now Autumn 1943 and three SOE operatives in France are caught and shot by the Germans. It is imperative they are replaced as quickly as possible, and new recruits are scheduled to go through rigorous training.

Absolutely gripping and authentic World War 2 British Spy & French Resistance Drama - Wish Me Luck: Series review by DP

Spoiler Alert
30/08/2026

A bit of a slow start in Series 1. Do get past that, because it is worth it! By Series 2 and 3 it had me glued to the screen, with gripping suspense, rounded characters, authentic scenes and brutal action. I am sure some of the stories are based on actual happenings, and although it was an ITV series, pulled no punches about the brutality of that time and the heart wrenching choices that people in that tense time faced during the German occupation. Whet my appetite for De Gaulle (2026).
