Synopsis:
Summer, 1936. Bearing the expectations of a nation and their Fuhrer, two climbers set out to be the first to conquer the "last great problem of the Alps". But soon their ascent becomes a race for survival, threatened by injury and storms of unimaginable fury. Before long, their quest becomes a pusle-pounding race against both time and the awesome forces of nature. Shot through with scenes of gut-wrenching peril rivaling those of Touching The Void, Northface is a powerful, breathtaking tale of human endurance on a terrifying landscape; towering over 1,800m, the North Face has claimed over 60 lives and earned itself the grimly appropriate nickname: "the murder wall".

Mountaineering History - North Face review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert

This is a remarkable tale about a nation's desire to tackle the last great challenge left in the Alps. It would be a symbol of German supremacy and make the news worldwide. Unfortunately perspective climbers were 'encouraged' to tackle the North Face in unbelievable conditions whilst under the gaze of the press and public, who could watch from various vantage points. North Face is a tragic adventure, full of human bravery and persistence, played out against some wonderful backdrops. Recommended.

Gripping - North Face review by JR

A gripping story with stunning views and climbing action on the Eiger. Atmospheric cinematography and information about events in Europe in the 1930s makes an interesting film. Personal stories and interactions add to the drama.
