Synopsis:
From the early days of silent cinema, through the golden age of the picture palace to the modern multiplexes and beyond, 'The Final Reel' takes an affectionate and entertaining look at our nation's obsession with cinema. This feature length documentary, narrated by Sir John Hurt CBE, tells the fascinating and ever changing story of how cinemas have developed from the times of the travelling showmen to the present day era of the multiplex. It also asks the question - is this the final reel for the cinema or just another chapter in its on-going story?

Cinema History - The Final Reel review by JD

Spoiler Alert
14/09/2018

I enjoyed this history of the cinema buildings in the very localised area of East Anglia in the U.K.

Some good interviews with local personalities who were owners, projectionists or just keen fans.

Sadly , with most of the examples coming from the Norwich area it lacks a proper documentary feel, that a movie covering the whole of the U.K. would have done.

I suspect some of the interviews were conducted on behalf of local tv, and the ghost of Alan Partridge is never far away.
