Rent Courage (1986)


Sophia Loren stars as Marianna in this gripping drama about a mother whose son's life is being ravaged by his dependency on heroin and cocaine.

With her back to the wall, Marianna vows to take desperate measures to save her family and crumbling home. She agrees to help the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration with a dangerous undercover operation to smash the drug ring that is destroying her son's life.

Her reluctant-to-get-involved husband is beautifully played by Hector Elizondo and Billy Dee Williams gives a brilliant performance as the tough agent who becomes Marianna's ally.

Based on a true story, Marianna's work is said to have helped break a $3.5 billion drug ring, the biggest bust since the "French Connection".
