Rent was rented by Me in the Hopes of Melodic ecstacy renting My Ears out for the Night. A few Good Songs (the Opening number and 'AIDS Support Group' number) were Sung wonderfully and stirred the Musical-Lover in Me. The rest of the Songs were below par and the Acting was not that Great either. Idina Mendzel was brilliant, but the rest of the cast were dissapointing. This is definately no 'Phantom of the Opera'!!!! The plot dragged on and on and on and on....... The Viewer that wants to See a rock/opera to 'Feel' the Music and be 'Moved' is not going to get that with this Movie Musical. There was no real message or overall 'tone' to the Movie. It is does not grab or pull Emotion out of the Viewer. No doubt, it was wonderfull on Stage, but at Home 'rent' is tedious and the plot is messy. Apart from Idina Mendzel (as Mentioned Before) and a Couple of Great Songs the only 'wow factor' this Movie Musical has, is that it was produced by Mr. Robert De Niro!!!!

I have not watched the Broadway show but the main casts are mostly OBC. The songs and the production are great!
