A powerful little comedy drama. - Pieces of April review by CP Customer

April is a young woman who has always considered herself the outsider of her family, but tries to make amends by inviting her family to her tiny New York apartment for Thanksgiving dinner. The story cuts between April, a rather inept cook, trying to scrape together a half decent Thanksgiving dinner; and her families long drive to April's home, all sceptical of what April will have to offer. When the two storylines finally converge at the end of the movie, it's very touching, but at the same time not schmaltzy or overly sentimental. Katie Holmes proves she is actually a pretty good actress, and Oliver Platt and Patricia Clarkson are fantastic as her parents. All in all, 'Pieces Of April' is a perfect example of how you can make a great film with virtually no money, as long as you have a good script, interesting characters and some quality acting.
