- The Wire is an American crime drama series. Praised for its realism and socio-political portrayals of urban America the Wire is an HBO drama set in Baltimore that follows various aspects of the cities bureaucracy and ruling class including the police, the seaport system, the local government and the education system. Comprised of a large ensemble cast each season focuses on a specific aspect of urban life in Baltimore and has been applauded for the insightful and sympathetic portrayal of various institutions and characters, most notably ethnic minorities.
