BBC 'documentary' - Mozart: Rise of a Genius review by AW

Spoiler Alert
11/11/2025

3 episodes, 2024, 175 mins. Several actors, singers, musicians, an opera director and a comedian (!) speak in between costume enacted scenes of Mozart's short life, and there are clips of more modern concerts & operas, all narrated by Juliet Stevenson.

What the actors have to do with Mozart really baffle me (including the very avid, and to me, rather annoying, gesticulating Adjoa Andoh) and every few minutes they spend many minutes expounding their own personal (?)views about why Mozart did what he did at various stages of his short life. Sorry but frankly that's rather typical of the very biased BBC - twisting things and pushing their grandiose assumptions of one man's professional life at us.

While I found the historical bits interesting as I know little of the composers history or order of compositions, I mainly got this out because I'd been recently reading up on Salieri and raced to re-view my VHS tape(!) of the film AMADEUS which I found fascinating when it came out.

Only credits present at end are one David Kerek, unknown to me, rather dull and inconspicuous, playing Mozart.
