- A Catholic priest in Ireland advocates violent rebellion amidst the 1916 Easter Rising rebellion, and draws the respect of a young parishoner. 50 years later, the former student comes back into his life, living as a cold IRA gunman, and active in the rise of the even bloodier saga of "The Troubles".

Moving slice of Irish history - Penance review by JR
Good film, very well observed with high production values, set during the 1916 Easter Rising and in 1969 at the start of the "Troubles".
Don't want to give away the plot but some characters appear in the 1916 scenes and as their older selves in 1969.
Sad, hard hitting, period drama. Recommended.
