In this wildly funny hit comedy, Paul Rudd gets engaged to the girl of his dreams but has not a single guy friend to be his Best Man until he meets the ultimate dude, Jason Segal. Funny in places - I Love You, Man review by Rob S

Spoiler Alert

Didn't know what to expect from this and I would say that this was a well crafted film and very well acted especially Jason Segel (very cool initially but then a bit of a sad chap). It's kind of a male romcom but is equally appealing to gals (my wife enjoyed it) but ultimately there aren't too many laugh out loud moments. Having said that it's amusing and a bit different to normal romcom stuff so if you're looking for a comedy with a difference (i.e. relating to male bonding) then give this a try. The disc itself has good (but not excellent) picture quality and good sound (especially the music). Extras are quite thorough and there is a longish gag reel with some funny moments with a bar stool. Overall 3.5/5

Instantly Forgettable. - I Love You, Man review by CP Customer

‘I Love You, Man’ isn’t a bad film; it’s just not particularly good either. The story of a newly engaged man who realises he’s great with women but has no male friends and embarks on a quest to build male relationships could have made a good story. The trouble is the storyline feels like a carbon copy of ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ in which the writers have take the basic plotline and substituted the word ‘virgin’ with the word ’male friend’. But the films real weaknesses are that as a comedy it’s flat and has practically no laughs, and what little comedy is there is just based around awkward social situations; and as a male relationship film it’s underdeveloped, shallow and towards the end just comes across as juvenile and corny. In reality this is a film which relies entirely on the likeability of its two main leads Paul Rudd and Jason Segal who do a fairly decent job of carrying a fairly dull film. If you enjoyed films like ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ and ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ you may want to rent this, though if you haven’t seen the aforementioned films rent them instead, they’re far superior in every way.

No chemistry - I Love You, Man review by JD

Spoiler Alert
08/06/2010

Although it contains some ingredients which should have worked it didn't. There are some serious issues such as does having good same sex friends threaten a marriage, previous sexual problems can influence subsequent relationships and how irritating is it when a dog owner refuses to clear up faeces on a pavement. These might have served to counterpoise the humour but they didn't. It moved from embarrassing to immature humour. The plot was totally disjointed and uninteresting, the characters more superficial than skin scales.
