If it ain't broken leave it alone.

A tame remake of the body snatcher 'genre.' The cast do well with the available script but the "everybody lives happily after," ending is too sugary. The film hints at the worldwide benefits of benevolent control, with an absence of free will, this theme had more legs and could have been further explored. A world without war, terrorism, starvation etc, in exchange for emotions/choice could have been a real challenge for the director, shame.

Good fun alien flick. Nothing special but worth a watch.

Big disappointment

Poor story and poor direction, should have been better considering the actors involved. Don't bother watching it.

A mess

Another example of Hollywood running short on ideas and remaking previous past classics. Invasion, or Invasion of the Body Snatchers as it should be known is a hollow, glossy reincarnation of the original B-move classic.
On paper with the lead actors there is potential here for a decent remake. However the director in his first Hollywood film suffered from problems and the usual producers and marketing men destroying his vision. As it stands this isn't the version of Invasion that the director wanted you to see.
It is amazing that the amount of money that went into this and the end result is totally inferior to the original. Even removing that comparison and you have a lukewarm stab at a thriller come science fiction lite experience.
However I'm glad I've seen it on DVD, as the ending would have left me feeling especially cheated if I had paid cinema prices for this.

A solid Sci-FI thriller.

The Invasion' is a fairly solid Sci-Fi thriller, the acting is decent, the direction is solid and the story moves along at a brisk pace. While it's not one of the best of films of all time it's certainly not that bad, where the film does fail is that it does suffer from a lack of tension, moments and scenes that should have you on the edge of your seat come of as a bit flat. That said, if you're running short of titles to add to your rental list then this is well worth a look.

OK Remake
- The Invasion review by GI
Another adaptation of the science fiction novel The Body Snatchers by Jack Finney, the most notable of which is the 1956 classic and the highly interesting 1978 version. This version attempts to update the story but has differences notably doing away with the pods that were a dominant part of the original story and the two previous films. Here a NASA space shuttle explodes on returning to Earth and the wreckage is found to contain an alien organism that begins an epidemic. Persons affected, once asleep, are transformed into emotionless replications of themselves and soon these begin to hunt down those who are yet to succumb. Nicole Kidman is a psychiatrist who suspects what is happening and tries to get to her son before it's too late. The film lacks the tension and the slight horror elements of the other versions of this story although there's a gripping chase sequence in the film's climax. Daniel Craig costars as her Doctor boyfriend and Jeffrey Wright supports. Kidman does her best as the mother trying to save her son and the film has some interesting moments but it's not as good as the other films.

Re-make of the Bodysnatchers

Quite good if you're into Sci-Fi. A bit predictable at times. Kidman and Craig play their roles adequately.
