- Six months after losing her only child in the Southeast Asia tsunami, Jeanne (Emmanuelle Béart) is convinced she has seen footage of him in a film about orphans living in the jungles of Burma. While her husband (Rufus Sewell) finds it hard to believe their child is alive, and is worried that Jeanne is losing her mind, he still agrees to take her on a search for their son together. Introduced to a dangerous gang of human traffickers, they soon find themselves alone and stranded in the middle of a treacherous jungle, where they come face-to-face with their greatest fears.

So-So Thai-set Post-Tsunami Missing Child Mystery Bordering on Horror... - Vinyan review by PV
Hmmm, this was watchable, but I thought the acting oscillated between wooden and over-wrought. Most dialogue is in English.
It's a film in a certain specific genre one could call TSUNAMI PORN, if one were to be cynical. The Impossible is the most famous of these.
This reminds me of later film set in South America The Green Inferno actually though that is more horrific; arguably this is not horrific enough, all very stagey actually,and best not start asking questions re logistics or indeed logic. Just let it all wash over you like a dark tsunami... David Cronenberg's The Brood (1979) starring Oliver Reed is worth a watch too.

Harrowing and horrifying - recommended! - Vinyan review by NP
Writer/director Fabrice Du Welz has become a name I look out for. I hope he continues to make films for many years to come. Like 2004’s ‘The Ordeal’, ‘Vinyan’ is not something I would recommend if you are feeling a little down. Here we have the lengths people will go to resolve a tragedy – in this case, the disappearance of their child – and the true misery that accompanies their failure to do so.
The ending, which I won’t reveal, is shocking and haunting and will stay with you long after the film is over. Suffice it to say, I look forward to Du Welz’s next project with a great deal of anticipation. My score is 8 out of 10.
