Meet David Spritz, Chicago's most popular weatherman and minor celebrity. Professionally he's on top of the world but his personal life is a mess. Failing father of two and frustrated son of a famous writer, Spritz is poised on a knife edge between stability and disaster. Faced with the chance of hitting the big time in New York he goes on a soul-searching mission to reunite his family, but the more he tries to take control, the more he finds that life, like the weather is completely unpredictable. From acclaimed director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) and starring Academy Award-winners Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine, The Weather Man is the comedy that will brighten your day.

Interesting but not great

The waather man follows one guy on his discovery that life is life and you have to just get on with it. Its not great but an interesting watch. Gets a bit drifty in the middle. Its one of those films that makes you think i just need to get on with things and stop trying to make it how i wish it could be.

The Weather Man - Cage Vs Caine

Who would have thought that Michael Caine would do an american accent? I was really disapointed that this stallwart of british film would actually do it. In The Weather Man, his character is harsh and unemtional. I can see where he is coming from, what he is trying to protray and he does it very well - I just can't get past the accent.
Cage is fantastic. He is really bringhing out different sides in himself and challenging his craft. His depressed, unhappy Weather Man pulls at the heart strings. I have had a soft spot for Nic since Wild at Heart, and now it is great to see him grow as an actor.
Gore's direction is great - as ever, he just lets them get on with it.
If you haven't seen this film, I would watch it on a Thursday night or Sunday afternoon. It's good, gentle and leaves you thinking about when your big break might come - if ever...

Fast Food No Comedy

Certainly not a comedy, so being labelled a drama is more apt. The Weather Man does have a few laughs but mostly concerns a local TV weather man who is going through family difficulties. Everything seems to be out of control including the ex-wife, kids, father and the constant stream of food flying his way.
A touching performance from Nicholas Cage, minus his trademark bravado and solid support from Michael Caine. It is one that you'll want to see through to the end but most likely will soon be forgotten.

The Weather Man review by Shatner's Bassoon
Watchable though unimaginative.

The Weather Man centers around Chicago Weatherman Dave Spritz and the awkward relationships he has with his terminally ill father, ex-wife and children. Finding himself at a crossroads in his life he realises his life is not as he hoped it would be, and with the prospect of a new national TV weather job in the offering, Spritz has to make choices and come to terms with who he is as a man. Overall 'The Weather Man' isn't that bad a film, but both the story and characters lack any real depth, and as you watch events unfold you never really seem to connect with any of the characters. If you like films like P.T Andersons 'Magnolia' and 'Punch Drunk Love' you may enjoy this, although like me, you may find it a bit lightweight.
